Bring The Kids On Your Maine Vacations, Let Them Have Some Of The Fun Too!
Maine Families, All Ages Have Memorable Vacations All Four Seasons..

Maine is one big state, and when you mention the word, place in conversation many varied reactions can happen.

To the never been here before if quizzed about the state of Maine, sea coast lighthouses, lobsters, blueberry pie and downeastern accents come to mind. Maine is oceanfront, harbor towns but only 230 miles of coastline means must be more to Vacationland than just that right?

Well the vacation to Maine, to do the most you can without making it feel like hurry scurry, work depends on the amount of time you plan to be in the Pine Tree State. If you arrive on one of the 100 or so cruise ships that park off the coast, and go ashore, you leave with a lobster roll in your stomach, trinkets native to Maine in your tourist bag. Here are things to do in Maine along the coast though to tackle that region, part of the state.

But if you have a few days, a week to tour this state of Maine with 6000 lakes, to meet the people of different regions, you could end up, depending on the season doing outdoor recreation not tied to whale watching, walking ocean front beaches or hanging around harbor shops, cafes. You might be skiing Sugarloaf, Sunday River or smaller Big Rock Ski areas.

Snowsledding across open fields, through woods trails, ice fishing frozen lakes or skating mean winter not a time in Maine to hibernate either.

Portland Maine has lots of history, as do southern portions of the state that have been around a little longer than Aroostook County way up north too. White water rafting, hiking Mt Katahdin, Baxter State Park other options depending on the season, age of the vacation party.

Maine summer youth camps, museums, fairs, fesitvals and farmers market stands other vacation options. If you like old cars, trucks, airplanes, motorcyles, Owls Head Transportation Museum worth a portion of your memorable Maine vacation. Maine, get here quick as you can in person. You’re heart has been here for quite some time already. See what you are missing in Maine, the way life should be. Make sure your New England vacation includes Maine.

  • Camping In Maine… Define Your Version Of ME Vacationing.

Camping In Maine… Define Your Version Of ME Vacationing.

A vacation camping can mean a simple Maine log cabin with cooking on an open fire, maybe with a screened in front porch.

Activities can involved sporting hunting/fishing.snowsledding or ATV trips with your buddies. Card games, reading a book or two, long walks, being up close and personal with the wildlife on a lake, river, stream, ocean is another Maine attraction.

But the word camping may not mean hiking Baxter Park’s Mt Katahdin, or winter cross country skiing and could translate in to an air conditioned “second home” in Maine that has satelite tv, high speed internet, wall to wall rugs and a full basement too. There are folks that drive large close to a million dollar “land yatchs” to

Maine, Lots Of Flavors, Meaning To That Word When Talking Vacationing.
Maine, Lots Of Flavors, Meaning To That Word When Talking Vacationing.

Maine and park them at camp grounds, at Walmarts, on a piece of land they purchase. We in Houlton Maine, Aroostook County see many campers heading further north to the wooded wildnerness, or with a canoe / kayak strapped to the car / truck top on a trip to the Allagash Waterway. Or maybe to spring board on vacation to the Atlantic Canadian Provinces to the east. Say Prince Edward Island, over to Nova Scotia, the New Brunswick Province of Canada.

What is your idea of “camping” and does it involve a tent, outdoor cooking, sleeping under the stars and near Maine water frontage? Maine is “Vacationland” for a reason.

I feel extremely lucky, fortunate, passionate about having all Maine offers right in my own backyard.

Not having to travel miles and miles to get to something this beautiful, unspoiled, with just the right spacing of people. No traffic, no pollution, not a lot of noise, pushing or shoving. Maine, grab your coat, tell your friends you’re heading north. Get here quick as you can, anyway you can. Hitch hike, hop on a motorcyle, saddle up a horse. But keep in mind, the simpler the vacation camping the better in Maine. That’s how we roll. Fun, easy, low cost, high value thanks to the setting in Maine doing all the work.

  • Do More Than Live Life, Go Thru The Motions….Maine, What The Brochure Left Out.

Teaching The Skills Of Potato Picking Early On.
Teaching The Skills Of Potato Picking Early On.

When you see the glossy colored brochures, write ups and tourism industry generated videos, promotional propaganda on Maine, you get excited.

Maine is vastly different than over populated areas with too many people to deal with, drive around, worry about crime wise. It is not like that here…life if so much simpler. After you get thru the slide show of Maine lobster, lighthouses, blueberry pie, potato picking and Mt Katahdin, there are the topics left out that enrich your life.

For starters, it helps if you aproach Maine with a slight attitude adjustment. Small mental tweaking on how you are living your life now. If it is a blur, where you are detached from your surroundings, and only absorbed in a few areas like work, a sport, or baggage from the past, we have some prep work. Happier living starts with a different outlook. And Maine then becomes the backdrop. Provides the scenery change. The removal, weeding out of too many people. And replacement with four season beauty to continue the “new you” enhancement.

When you find yourself, put yourself on the side of a Maine lake, and it’s 5am with the sun coming up, you have forgotten the freeway to work you do battle on most days. You are aware of the singing birds in the trees.Hear and see fish jump near the dock the kayak is lashed to. You are walking before a breakfast you cook that is not hurried, is actually fun to create. The kids are still sleeping because the jet ski tubing you did with them yesterday wore them out in a good way. In an energy drained, that was fun manner memorable fashion. Tomorrow you will take those same kids and hike in Baxter State Park. You will not be thinking of phone calls to return, emails to check, or stirring any back burner office projects for the next week.

This vacation in Maine removes the hectic you have assembled in to your life. Replaces it with a new awareness of your surroundings. You are in Maine. You have let go, relaxed and figured out a few of the secrets of a fulfilled, happy connencted life. Maine is more than a place. Fill your life with that clean air. Study the bluer than bluer sky during the day. The million star on black velvet same sky but at night under a moonlight that dances on that same lake you got energy from visually this morniing with that coffee. Maine is a people that are hardworking, family centered, willing to help you out and accept your quirks. And at the same time are curious and wanting to learn where you have been. What you have learned that you can share with them. That’s a true Mainer.

The connection to others. The awareness of the place we live and respect for all Maine offers starts with depending on ourselves.

The ingredients for contentment, serenity are like low hanging fruit in Maine. We don’t have to create the setting or buy the enhancements to create the flavor. It is already here, not spoiled or removed by man or development under the banner of progress. And being on a budget is a great way to carve out a simpler life in Maine.

  • Maine Is Vacationland, But As Nice As It Is, Running Away From Home Is Necessary.

One in awhile, at least once a year, a vacation that you have earned from working hard and budgeting for is a good thing. I run into folks that brag about how they have not taken a vacation in seven years or more. Why? I love my job, am passionate about what I do and grew up on a farm knowing chores, responsibilities, discipline to get the work done day in and day out. But a vacation was something we did as a family in Maine.

Trips to Mt Katahdin camping and hiking, to the Maine coast to rent a place on the water and then lobster / clam boil with an open fire. My passion even thought I am in Maine, is to in the dead of winter, round up the four kids and head to somewhere with aqua blue water.  I raised my kids as a single full time dad and the most memorable cruise was the first one with the four kids and I on the smoke free Paradise which was a new Carnival ship. Everything was new and exciting. Fun in the sun, taking in three islands, collecting t-shirts, snorkeling in our own private boat with a native that showed us the island from a local’s perspective. Here’s a 6800 + video view cruise trip from Portland Maine to Miami to blue green water.
