  • What Do You Do In Maine, Don’t You Get Bored? (Smile)

The way the grass looks, the shade of green in what you see from afar.

Maine is a mystery to many. She is not a place to compare to another in explaining the state to someone new to these parts. Where do you begin and usually it is easier to start the Maine photo slide show. The images of Maine do the job easiest. No talking, just gawking.

    Maine Deer, Moose, Wildlife.
Your Neighbors Four Legged, Furry, Curious, Shy.
The photos of Maine reduce it all down to what is real, natural, special. Because so much of the unspoiled space is foreign to people that have lived without it so long. And it is easy to forget places like this exist except in books, high budget movies that can transport the city mouse far from the noise, smells, worries and rat race.

So back to the Maine blog post title and the skeptic eye someone not familiar with the Pine Tree State sometimes casts.

Some that have never been here wonder how do the locals do it. Do what? Stand the deafening sound of quiet when on the top of Mt Katahdin. You explain when the man made sounds, billboards, all the clutter of commerce is removed, you see what hides behind it.

Maine is undeveloped and straight out of the box Mother Nature, Jack Frost, God and a host of others that cherish woods, wildlife and waterways create. Like the Mainer who is after more than a healthy credit card limit can begin to buy that will last.

The Connection With The Audience. Seeing Each Member One By One.
Get real, get Maine was a slogan I think a few years back. To get to that place, you had to back away from the spending table of out of habit.

The fear of having enough savings to fuel the store bought lifestyle of artificial insecurity.

The urge, itch to flaunt your success. Replaced with more dig deep and rely on yourself, your skills, talents. Than your wallet or purse used to drive the show production. That shift when realized is what makes Maine an “ah ha” moment. And you blush, go still, become humble.

Maine now has you wrapped around all of her fingers.

Not just the little ones on the ends that go wee wee wee all the way back to the big city, bright lights living. With the tail between it’s legs. One hand on the fully charged taser.

When someone utters, sputters but what about culture, got any of that? Tell them about the water ballet performance. Of a pair of Maine loons in love and displaying it. In a private sunset show on a Maine lake with you alone or a partner

In a VIP box seat shore front lawn folding canvas chair feeling hit hard. Deeply by the display.

What matters most in life rises to the top when you remove all those layers that insulate, distract and waste precious time.

In getting to the heart of the matter, what really pulls on the strings to the ticker. The settings where man can not drive a car. You don’t pay for parking. Are the spots to find what is missing. Less is more in Maine. More than enough.

End the day getting off an antique tractor you thank for hanging in there. Getting that back forty planted, cultivated and hoed. Or another very important day of a critical harvest time in the books. You appreciate more that someone that only values things with a dollar sign attached misses. That stack of racked, stored firewood for next winter in the shed. The root cellar busting at the seams for winter dining.

You are content because you made your life that way with gratitude is riches thinking.

You are blessed with what matters that you need, not thinking you do out of wanting something but the hankering goes away as soon as you possess it. We chase different moving targets in Maine that don’t come in a catalog, can be ordered online at Amazon.

Maine is humbling, sacred, real and to be protected.

The home made love and appreciation passed down to preserve it taught to the kids.

Whether at a woods camp hunting, trail hiking or biking. Plying the water of a river, lake, pond or in a sea kayak with a friend. Paddling out to circle a near shore Maine lighthouse like a NASA capsule orbiting before it’s return to Earth.

The picnic lunch of what you grew yourself. Sliced, layered and enjoyed more because hunger improves the taste.

The setting all around in Maine is not easy to describe. Because it is more than what you see, take in. More about what explodes, detonates and resonates within that propels your day. Makes your life in Maine oh oh so worthwhile and enjoyed.

  • Maine, You Appreciate It More If You Are Just Getting Here.

If You Never Down Hill Skiied, Snowmobiled, Ice Fished, Pond Hockey Games, Winter In Maine Could Be A Whole New Experience.
Maine, Four Seasons, Not Just Winter.

Lulled in to a false sense of “it’s like this in Maine everywhere else” happens.

When you are lucky enough to grow up in Maine, you can easily miss the difference of day to day here compared to somewhere else on the blue and green marble. What makes it so special to get more than a week’s vacation or two in Maine? You get to know the people who live here on a daily basis for starters.

The people of Maine are spread out. Elbow room times fifty.

Big state, less people, friendlier folks is what it all boils down to in Maine.

The locals have to work harder to make local community events happen when there are fewer in the ranks. But smaller groups are tighter, cozier, more connected. Everyone cares about each other and it truely is a case of “the village raises your kids”. The children are the fuel, spark from watching sporting events, local musicals, to families enjoying outdoor recreation together.

But besides the down to earth, God fearing, hard working locals of Maine, you have to give plenty of credit to Mother Nature. Her handiwork in creating Maine’s 2500 lakes, ponds, and only about another 1000 rivers and streams means natural clean water makes it a wet experience. Looking at it from a deck chair, out on it in a boat or swimming, wading and fly fishing in it. Plenty of water, less crowds of people here to keep you from enjoying it, getting close to it. That’s another secret of why Maine is special.

The four seasons gives variations on a theme, of what to do for fun, relxation in Maine.

Not one but four seasons. Never getting bored with one because before you know it, we’re in to a new one. You never get enough of one, your fill before the next one shows up right on schedule. What about the weather, climate, topography in Maine?

If you think Maine is the most fun in the dead of summer hiking up Mt Katahdin, taking a open horse carriage ride at Acadia National Park or whale watching on a boat ride off a harbor coastal town, you make valid points. But you did not see the other many facets of this diamond, gem called Maine. Missing out on a blaze of red, orange, yellow fall foiliage as you sneak in to Vacationland for a long weekend. Or putting on a pair of boards, hopping on a snowsled to explore the ski areas or the 3500 miles of Maine snowsled trails.

Enjoy the images, photos of Maine and start seeing yourself air brushed in to the scenery of Vacationland. Consider become part of the local landscape, the human fabric by investing in some seasonal or full time Maine property. See your life take on new meaning. A greater sense of purpose for what is real, special and no or low cost. Watch our Maine community local videos. Discover what it is really like here in Maine, meet some of the people at the home town events.

  • Maine, Sometimes The Pictures Do All The Talking.

Come Meet The People Of Maine. Some Kind Of Friendly, Warm.

  • Beg, Borrow And Steal But Get Your Piece Of Maine Property.

Maine Sunset, This Is Our HBO, Pay Per View.

If you are stuck in traffic, wall to wall, bumper to bumper on say RT 128 outside Boston MA or the Bronx Expressway in New York City, you have plenty of time to think, fume, wish, hope, ponder your life. Where you spend it.

And if we all agree life is short, meant to be enjoyed, Maine is often the dream you visit while stuck wedged in tightly on those multi lane highways. And just sitting, not moving.

Big cities, bright lights, moving and grooving is exciting, a thrill a minute when you are younger. But with families, and realizing the life clock is ticking, Maine is a way way slower pace of life. Lower cost property here too. Crime is the same bargain basement and low low like car insurance, cost of living.

So many folks start out just ordering up a taste of Maine. Sampling just a small side property dish of the place called Vacationland, the Pine Tree State. The attraction is the less people, not crowded or spoiled natural resources. The distance you drive dictates how low cost that piece of Maine property is too. Maine is one big honking state (unfolding, paper rustling sound as map opens up, you study it a tad.)Aroostook County is the size of CT and RI alone with 11 people per square mile. New Jersey is populated with 1000 folks per that same square mile. Ditto the square, Alaska has one lone soul, human living in it.

Dreaming about Maine, being here when stuck there? Time’s a wasting. Grab your coat, tell your friends you are heading to Maine. The time is here.

It’s your life, have some fun, relax and smell some Maine wild flowers.

Follow our other ME blogs too for Maine insight, details, images, video clips about this state way way up here in the right hand corner of the nation. Almost in Canada, bordered by it on two sides. Consider moving, relocating, investing in ME.

  • Capturing Maine Digitally Is Like Trading In Your Bow And Arrow For A Gatlin Gun.

The gatlin rapid fire gun was introduced during the civil war in 1861 to reduce the number of deaths and the size of the northern army.

The digital camera revolutionized picture taking in the same dramatic way. With a high pixel resolution the new images are the size of a barn or one of the smaller fifty states. Instead of accurate camera aim to capture the subject, new point and shoot cameras take in the subject and everything within three miles around it.

You can now shoot elephant with the typical hand held and with a simple learning curve image editor, crop all

Hey, Come Back Here With My Frenc Fry Bird.
Hey, Come Back Here With My French Fry Bird.

what you don’t want with the remaining section of the image plenty big enough for clarity, size and application. Without concern for the cost of processing and the actual film expense per roll of unexposed medium, digital allows rapid fire image taking increasing the odds of a quality shot.
I like to capture Maine both with a still digital camera and video clips to later edit into a movie that shows the flavor of Maine. The colors of the seasons, the sounds of a Maine spring, summer, fall and winter are so varied and special. Natural lighting during the magic twenty minutes before sunset or just after sunrise enhances the lake, ocean, mountain, woods or field scene. And when coupled with the unique hard working, down to earth character of Maine people, anyone can collect, post and share the essence of Maine.

Salt and peppered in this MeInMaine blog, I hope to stock the shelves with bits and pieces of imagery, video, and copy that conveys my piece of Maine, what Maine means to me. This Maine video explains why I live in Maine, what my life journey has been so far. Our video efforts show everything from youth picking Maine potatoes video, to a local 4th of July 4 day Houlton ME celebration video, a Maine 14 inch snowstorm, local Maine tournament baseketball game or a local Maine hockey contest and everything in between. We also pay the bills with local Maine real estate videos mixed in between the community videos too. Scan roughly 900 of my Maine images over over 750 Maine blogs posts with video and imagery attached or embedded at ActiveRain and eventually in this home grown Maine local community living blog, MeInMaine.
