I hear the complaint, feel the gushing, rushing from the Maine real estate buyer who I ask “is something missing in your life?” Building A Better, Happier, Peaceful You Starts With Looking At Your Life’s Layers.
That is the lead in welcome question on our Maine real estate website. Often the purchase of a Maine property listing is sparked by the buyer’s need to “fix something”.
Many city dwellers if asked what is missing in their life will start with the word space to feel safe, to just be able to think. They realize their jammed in, wall to wall existence is cutting off air and robbing their peace. Slowly learning that their first world problems are not life and death important.
Worries about crime, keeping up with the marathon pace all take their toll on a body. Add a couple of pallets of heavy high cost of living for good measure and let simmer as the temperature, pressure rises.
You are not born a Type A personality but are taught and rewarded to be that way.
Competitive, hard driving, at war with time, feeling guilty relaxing. Add in some worries, fears that cause a daily dump of stress hormones in to your system and you become a Rambo on a mission. A force to be reckoned with, like a wild animal being attacked. Wondering if it’s to be the main course, what’s for supper tonight. Feasted on by the approaching crouched approaching predator. That is not here for just a social call. Hears the dinner bell ringing.
We create layers of stress, like a life lasagna of worries, negative thoughts.
Nothing motivates like the fear of survival. Except instead of fight or flight to avoid being eaten, our fear is man made, social engineered. Like the term artificial intelligence, it was nothing God intended. Or that you find between the covers of the red or black or white bound family Bible. When you climb on your personal survival exercise machine and you have trouble finding the off switch. To shut down, relax and release the pressure on your body and over crowded, no vacancy mind.
This is the part where a shameless pitch for buying a piece of Maine real estate comes in. A property on a pristine lake, wooded acreage on the side of a hill with a long expansive view. The setting designed to help you slow down. Because man has not invaded it, spoiled it, set up any carnival tents yet. Just you, your thoughts, some wildlife that meanders, wanders in and out to visit through out your relaxing Maine day.
Slow Down, Capture Your Thoughts In Maine By The Water Video.
In Maine, the eat or be eaten heavy protective armor is removed.
Vacationland is the 4th lowest crime state. People wave, smile and say hello rather than ignore or suspect you are up to something no good. Or mean them harm. In Maine property is so low cost you own the title to the land free and clear. Out right. No mortgage demons tread milling in your head to weigh you down with worry.
Back to the part about your thoughts. If you head and heart are filled with junk, worries, hurts, how can you experience life and be fun to be around? Hurt people hurt people. Without knowing why. As an island forms and you become the only Gilligan on it. No Ginger or Mary Ann to enjoy the sunsets with.
With a lot of work, the type A personality man or woman with the fight or flight, five alarm fire bell ringing in their head can recover.
It starts with seeing what all those stress hormones are doing flooding their system. Always feeling anxious, multi tasking around the clock means you never catch your breath. Can not spend time in relax mode with your feet up, in the sun and able to watch the world go by. Without a care in the world. The ability to put down your sword, walk away from fights and eat some desert.
Baggage, how many pieces, what size, shape, color are you carrying?
God examines your heart, can start pruning and replacing the weight of sin with the breath of life, pure love. If you let him, if you are ready. Or continue to blame others for your problems, feel sorry for yourself and be robbed blind of all the peace and joy you deserve. And that so do your family, loved ones, community around you do too. Happy, content, not being heavily burdened carrying the weight of the world delivers you to still waters. Frees the mind, soothes the soul. Isn’t that the perfect setting for loving others, the relationship with yourself?
Maine, have a piece. Own some Maine real estate. Start small, think big. Just an acre in the woods is the base camp you need to explore Vacationland and your personal life. To begin replacing the clutter, guilt, overbooked fatigue with feelings of joy, contentment, peace.

Life In Northern Maine means there are many things day to day we just don’t worry about..like stolen cars.
Or crime for that matter with Maine the fourth lowest state for the events that happen daily. That you notice on out of state television in a motel room while waiting for someone in the bathroom showering. And the nightly news reports none stop, horendous reports of drive by shootings, kidnaps, rapes, arsons, gang violence, drug busts.
Because we have a lower population, the terrain is unspoiled by man. The lakes are clean, wooded sections just inhabitated by wildlife. And you can leave your keys in a car, or leave it running while zipping in to the post office, in and out of a local store in the winter. No one is going to take it. Anyone looking to steal a car is not going to drive this far north to do it.
And if you are looking for something exotic like a Porsche, a 1967 Shelby GT Mustang…well, there are more of those in areas that are crowded to the south. Thieves are lazy, look for the low hanging, easy fruit by human nature right?
And in small Maine towns, if I see someone messing with your car, pickup, house, camp or cabin that looks suspicious, acts nervous, I get involved. Take a plate number, ask some questions and know my neighbor would do the same thing for me in return. That’s the way we roll when you live in Maine. Work hard for everything you have. Teaching your kids to respect other people’s property. To take care of their own too. We go to camp, spend time in the words, to figure out life, without the noise, distractions. Keeping it basic. As Anthony Bourdain learns, finds out about Maine when his Milo ME native camera man Zach Zamboni coaxes his boss, the traveling food critic in to the family wilderness hidden Maine lake retreat. What is the differences in a big state like Maine in what each area offers?
You’ll like the lakes, loons, sunsets, and less people aspect of Northern Maine, rural parts of the state. But you will equally like what we don’t have. Little crime, no traffic, no pollution and you can see the star filled sky at night. And daily overhead cobalt blue skies are a change from a population center like a city with smog, noise, too much activity. Maine, it’s way way different here. This video explains the differences a state this big offers..or at least the locals perspective on what it is like based on where they live in Maine.
Kids raised in Maine families can walk to the local movie theatre, to public skating, little league practice, home from school and nothing dangerous, awful happens to them. It is not like that everywhere in the country. Less people is one reason for little crime. And the people here get involved if they see something amiss, out of place. The entire “village” raises those kids, looks out for them, helps shape them. There is a connection here that big impersonal city living can not come close to, if at all. Volunteering and working on local Maine projects give the local residents part of that closeness, a pride that is powerful. More involvement and a home grown aspect develops, cements, mortars small rural Maine communities. That is the local flavor of a Maine small town loaded with tradition, family values, work ethic and desire to respect other peoples property, feelings, lifestyle. I’m Maine REALTOR Andrew Mooers
Each morning, day in and day out, you meet and greet the fellow in the mirror who stares back, waiting for the second cup of coffee to kick in just like you.
As you saddle up, strap on the utility belt, get ready to ride out in to another day. But how well do you really know, understand this reflection? Why do we want what we want, need what we need and in the degree unique to each and every one of us?
My dad had a college commencement speaker who stated he hopes the graduating class got to have set backs, to know advertsity early in life so as to benefit from it. I saw an ad on television yesterday indicating failure is the road to success. The same road paved with good intentions. But the character, the make up, the crank factor of you, yourself and I is modeled after your parents, shaped by life events, the people in your day to day.
As a Maine real estate broker for 30 years, this is a people business. When a property buyer is upset, there is a reason. Listening to hear what the issue is, how I can help is key. Many times, it is not a case of the broker taking responsibility for a screw up. It is frustration in the life of the buyer who on top of this stressful move he is trying to orchestrate on time for his family, he also is having work issues, etc. Too much on his emotional plate and he is human. No antennae.
It is said life is 10 percent the events, the people you bump in to and get to know along the way. And 90 percent the way we react to those same events, people.
If there are too many people jammed in where you live now, that crowd is not helping you stay loose, focused and a fun guy or gal. If the sea of people is too many per square mile, that just adds to the mental pressure cooker inside your head.
That is where Maine comes in. Lower population gives you the space you need, less hubbub to process. Less noise. Add to it the four seasons, the outdoor recreational options to renew your spirit, adjust your attitude, and Maine is the RX supplement you need in your system.
If you can unwind, have down time and get some exercise at the same time, consider hiking one of Maine’s mountains. They come in all sizes The wildlife, unspoiled vista you see along the way is almost spiritual. You suddenly are humbled, stripped away of any self importance and able to think with a clear head. The fresh air in the your lungs part of it, the lack of people in your face way way too close is another component. But you are making time, running away to a setting that is conducive to figuring things out. Learning what makes you tick because you have time left over from maybe a place you live that crime consumes some of your personal energy. Worrying about a huge mortgage and wondering how in the world you are going to make the payment. That makes you old real quick. Hurry, scurry, detail rich busy. But no time to sit down and figure out your life. It is your life and you have choices right? Get to Maine as quick as you can.
In Maine our real estate is so low, we don’t struggle with giant crushing payments from mortgages with too many zero places in them. We own our homes, and material things is not the way we keep score on how are we doing. The simple things are front and center. Spending money to feel good does not work here. Consumer product purchasing therapy is dead. We help each other out and do it ourselves on projects. We take care of what we worked hard for to keep. Our kids grow up with work ethic learning to earn what they buy. This kind of respect is easily in a rural state with values like Maine. Come find out more about who you are.
