Traveling down from Aroostook County, it’s I-95 easy to get off below Bangor. Then it’s side roads Interesting twists and turns through little towns like Frankfort, Monroe, Swanville and many others. As we got closer to mid coast Maine beaches and salt sea air.

Secondary state highway travel really exposes you to rural Maine that does not get the glossy brochure tourism coverage.

You get the feel each small town is unique and interesting and would like to come back to really get to know them better. Living in Maine is like that. A lifetime of exploring, discovering and so much to experience.

The bridal shower included steamed lobster, corn on the cob, potato salad and baked beans from “The County”.

No big catering truck backing in and lots of employees in white tunics involved when Maine family gatherings happen.

Just 50 individuals stepping up to all contribute in some way to the outdoor family event. Outdoor dining and sunny skies on the Lincolnville Maine waterfront made the Saturday afternoon memorable.

After the event, we opted to stay in Lincolnville at the Mount Battie Inn.

Neat place with the goal “to make you feel like you are staying at grandmother’s home”. Neat conversation with the Maine inn keeper who had lots of vintage airplanes surrounding the check in counter. My Dad was a B24 tail gunner and we had a great conversation about WWII era air power.

We walked into the Whale Tooth Restaurant in Lincolnville Maine and Sky was our waitress doing a superb service job.

A walk along the Lincolnville Beach afterward before Meg and I walk the uphill return to our motel.

Where awaiting us were homemade banana bread, a home made muffin companion for a wake up treat.

More sunshine and a trip into Camden about four miles away for a sit down breakfast at Marriner’s Buttermilk Kitchen.

Amazing dark blue and white clean diner with a counter and booths.

Also you have the option to sit out on the rear deck overlooking Camden Maine Harbor.

To go with the delicious food you get a bonus pond and a small waterfall. Neat sights and sounds to go along with all the artwork and Maine harbor town memorabilia.

Walked around Camden Harbor and snapped some shots and video of boats of all kinds. Some schooners, old cabin cruisers and everything in between in mid coast Maine harbor boating inventory.

I think a row of john boats lined up in a Maine Harbor is a pretty photo.

The Camden Harbor Master told us you can rent them, the small john boats for a short close to shore outing.

Most used to get boat owners back and forth to where they anchor moored offshore with the smaller vessels. Mid coast Maine mini vacations happen to weekend warriors that live close by.

The gardens, landscaping, rock walls are just as beautiful as the well-preserved Maine mid coast housing stock.

Back into downtown Camden to stroll the Main Street and walk into The Smiling Cow.

The owner told me the business is 84 years old, started by his wife’s grandmother. Everything, anything Maine is in the aisles of The Smiling Cow. Lots of other shopping outlets to explore too. There are lots of places along the long Maine coast to vacation and sample. Mid coast Maine has it’s share of fun mini vacation options.

Had to announce at Demolition Derby back in Houlton so were on the road out of Camden at 10:30.

Did get a lot of walking in and photos of the Coastal Castle Inn, The Norumbega before leaving town.

After the wrap up of the mid coast Maine mini vacation, a stop in Bangor to pick up a few things at the new Reny’s store.

To gas up, buy a small house jack for a sagging deck Maine lake camp project. Then zipping back in “The County”, You know you are there when the “Benedicta with only one northbound exit” sign shows up on I-95 travels to Aroostook County. Maine Blog Posts

Maine blog posts don’t need a sea of words to relay worthwhile information.

In fact, images of Maine, videos of local Maine events can do the heavy lifting. Both easily relay what is it like living in Vacationland. Here are some images of Maine that I think do a pretty good job relaying the day to day experience. To transport you to Maine and to get a small taste of what is it like living here full time. Maine four season living offers lots of eye candy to share if you carry a camera and leave the safety off to bag and tag the imagery.

  • Spring In Maine, A Time Of Rebirth, Hope, To Plant Again.

Seasons, Maine has four of them.

Despite the wise crack about mud season and winter. There is not bad weather in Maine but just poor layering of the clothing to fit what is happening on the other side of the kitchen window. Folks that work the day without a roof or walls, no matter what the forecast catch that drift quickly.

Do You Have This Kind Of Natural Beauty Where You Live Now?

So spring, the best skiing, snow sledding happens on the tail end of a Maine winter.

We savor an old friend when their time with us is short. Seed catalogs, greenhouses, where to plant this or that is the buzz in many Maine households. As the red in the glass tube climbs higher.

And from budding and return of snow birds in spring, we leap into lush summer Maine living.

When You Live In Maine, Everything You Need Is Right On Your Back, Carried With You Daily For Skills, Talent.
And the calendar peels off the pages. Spins nicely toward the brilliant explosion, second bloom of fall foliage in Maine. Land of four seasons. Not just the white of fluffy winter snow. We have no igloos, don’t hibernate or become glued to the couch in Maine during snow covered months. More about climate, weather in Maine, the nitty gritty details.

Find what you are missing in Maine where it all happens outdoors year round.

More space, all natural, pure and kept simple. Life is more enjoyable without the crime, the traffic, the billboards or cans/bottles along the highways. The layers of players pushing the pencils in regulations are missing in Maine too.

  • Maine, Home Grown Not Store Bought, Plastic Or Shrink Wrapped.

If you had to use one word descriptions of Maine, it would be better to clarify, streamline the process.

Ask if you could just play the Maine images. One at a time. Like laying down, rotating missing puzzle pieces. To fit, focus, put it all together. For the brand new, tell me about this Maine place, state of mind you speak of so often. Love so much.

    Living In Maine
Open Air, Locally Grown, Friendly. Maine Is Simple Living.

If you could load videos on the local Maine area events, landscape. The need for words to help the online blog post reader get a sense of what’s it like in Maine would be a cinch to convey. Without the need for words to get in the way. For long wordy sentences to read between and decode.

Maine is real, raw, unspoiled. All natural, unfiltered, left alone and protected at the same time.

Under populated so not over used. Combined with treading lightly with all out constant respect, appreciation. Just being a ways up the highway for access, off the beaten path preserves the surroundings best.

Maine for many is like a trip to the Moon or some far away planet.

Just about the time you get there, well, better start the return trip. Because the vacation is short. Time is eaten up with travel. There is a clock ticking back at the place you really hang your hat. For now. Until you can make a run for it. To head to Maine for good. Instead of skimming the surface in short fits, start and stop intervals.

For more than a vacation week a year, long weekend if you are lucky to be in Maine longer.

To see, feel, hear what you are missing.

    Maine Is Small Town Special.
Maine Is Music. The Outdoor Loon On A Lake Kind. The Small Community Band Flavor.
By being MIA, AWOL, too busy and distracted with the man made rituals, material items, much that is plastic, artificial, temporary. And comes with a price. Don’t neglect the important relationships in life. With others, with your surroundings. In a place like Maine.

But ah, when you are lucky enough to live in Maine full time.

All that packing, unpacking, lodging expense, expensive meals, tolls. The hustling, tramping hurriedly to cram in as much of the sights in a short window of opportunity. All that is thankfully missing. Freeing you up. Leaving room.

So the experience is more relaxed, casual, enjoyable. Less racing, anxious, sweating happens. You now realize there is plenty of time. To discover a lifetime of new places in Maine.

To explore, return to and reflect on. As your kids grow up, your life becomes more outside family and time for a little more of just yourself. Less absorbed with the non essentials during your accumulation phase. Collecting stuff. You were told you needed in highly effective marketing.

Replacing the store bought luxuries shrink wrapped, often plastic with the genuine one of a kind Maine article.

That are only found in Maine. Outdoors, four seasons, plenty of parking. No lines, no tickets to buy to enjoy these natural events. With just you, if lucky enough to have a partner in the front row seats. The only patrons in the outdoor theater setting. With wildlife inviting you into where they live in sections of Maine the tourist information brochure did not highlight. Most from away never heard about or see talked up online.

    Maine Is Outdoor Simple Living.
Maine, Somehow Water Is Always In The Background. Part Of The Outdoor Fun.

You do feel spoiled when you are in Maine.

Not the kind that happens when you captain, sail in a little rough around the edges Indian class or Snipe family vessel. As you glide into a Maine, New England harbor. When now replaced with a 41 foot sleek, graceful yawl named Heart String. Under your command. Where the reception changes a little. Like does a 180 degree about face.

You now look like money. That makes some jump quicker, smile longer, try harder. Offer to help with the land line. Fresh water replenishment. Better slip parking spaces. As if working for a tip. Or suddenly feeling like they are among royalty, someone that has the air, smells like wealth. The old, inherited blue blood kind.

The wealth in Maine is measured internally, in the size of the area, space you make.

Deep down inside where your contentment, joy, gratitude lives. Over by the satisfying feeling of doing it yourself, being resourceful, you apply lots of patience. Deeper satisfaction happens in Maine because it’s not about the store bought. Picked off a shelf or impressing others. It is more secure and doing things for you, not for show or envy of others.

Give Maine the attention she deserves. Then watch out. Surrender. Put your hands up. Stop resisting. She will grab your heart, tugging at your strings. knowing how to pull them to make your dance, sing, laugh. Will never let go. And you hope she never does.

  • Maine, She Is Drop Dead Gorgeous Without Make Up.

Being Part Of A Family, Folks Who Care About You, Not Your Wordly Possessions.
Reaching Out, Learning You Are Part Of A Family, The Bigger Picture Is One Key To Happiness.

We live in a world of enhancements, quick fix solutions to whatever we think is missing in our life.

Or what we think will improve it. Presentation is everything. Looking good has overtaken doing good for many. Somewhere along the way the media, society, our self centered egos have planted the notion in our noggins that non stop personal happiness, gaining attention of others is to be sought at all cost.

That it is all about you, me. Number one basking in the heat of a for all to see, appreciate spotlight. And like gluttons with a “beat the buffet” attitude, we plunder, collect material shiny bling bling stuff, awards, merit badges, things thinking that the world needs to know our success. That all by our lonesome we earned it on our own.

But the reality of it all is you can not buy happiness. And it is not about being happy as much as being holy. Relationships are the most important goal, desire, what to seek. With God, with others. We should not ever get comfortable, we should not think relationships are going to be easy. They don’t just fall in to place. They are not for sissies, not for the lazy. Don’t expect the other person in it to do all the work. What is the reward in that for you or them?

Folks that work daily, get on their knees and open their hearts for God’s direction are not so popular with others who don’t.

A tightening up when the creator’s name comes up works against the belief that it is you who do good work. That some how you are in charge, get all the credit. And many don’t want to, think they need to be held to a higher standard. They practice, waffle between situational ethics that C.S. Lewis expounds on.

Happiness, success is not about wealth, vanity, pride, personal accomplishments.

Not the latest model this or that. It does not last, fades, is artificial. And beauty is not an external painted face, jewels, designer clothes, obscene bloated bank accounts, imported spots car, race horses or yachts. Not gained from fine things or experiences that cause feelings of hapiness. But radiates instead from the inner most places in a person that few get to see, are allowed to share and visit.

The heart, soul, thoughts of a person can be dull on the surface only or drop dead simply gorgeous.

The attractiveness of a person should not revolve, center around the enhancements, trappings worn in public or showcased to make you look better than others around you. Or who you are paired with. It is rock solid based on trust, confidence in God, not in ourselves.

Kindness, a smile, not being in a hurry, taking a person’s hand, a tender kiss, tucked away handwritten note left to find with a message only the recipient would understand. Genuine, down to earth tenderness, sensitivity, helpful gestures where the reward is greater for the giver than recipient helps establish a private happiness, contentment, joy, inner peace. And only the two of your know the chain of events. Not grandstanded, promoted, bragged up for any public relations move to convince others you are one outstanding person.

Our relationships, the depth, strength and committment to them is the real wealth in our life.

Love demonstrated and shared between two hearts, souls with both partners with their eyes on God to maintain, guide that relationship is the most important gift you can show, demonstrate to others. Especially your kids.

Thinking our success in life somehow is due solely to just our own sweat, tears, perseverance. Or that it just happens, is expected and somehow we are the privledged few is pride, vanity that will cause a stumble. And the sooner you know this adversity, set back in life, become broken, heart ripped wide open, the earlier you can begin corrections. And those around you will benefit from a new and improved you. That is more fun, healthier to be around.

Having a high self image, opinion of yourself is a dangerous plank to walk.

Maine is a good place to come down off that high horse. To get your head out of the clouds, to fall to Earth where you can hear God’s whisper that becomes a crystal clear when parked next to the stilled waters of a Maine lake. The oceanfront by a lighthouse, flowing river flowage.

If you are looking, searching for greater inner peace, answers to the direction of your life that may have been “back burnered” due to busyness. Or just have not allocated enough time to dedicate to your relationships in life, Maine is your destination. Come for a day, stay a life time. I find I do my best thinking alone on a Maine lake, a healing place.

Get the answers you need in a simple, stunning unspoiled four season Maine surroundings. Surrender is not a bad word or may be the healthiest option, your only choice and Maine is the state to decide to do it. Maine is more than a quick, easy good fleeting feeling of happiness. She grabs your heart, never lets go in a good way and is better than the real thing. And you come out the other side a better person.

  • Maine, Only The Most Natural Ingredients.

Camping In Maine, Simple Outdoor Recreation.
Camping In Maine, Getting Some Time Alone.

Maine, the recreation here is not like a man made Space Mountain, or anything resembling the Las Vegas strip.

It’s usually one of four colors. Blue, green, brown, white. During the fall foliage explosion of colors tons of reds, yellows, oranges too. Maybe the attraction to Maine it is real. All the wildlife, the simple, refreshing, spacious feeling all around you.

In a day and age where you wonder about what you read in the newspaper, hear on line, see on the tube all quoted as gospel. Where spin and marketing, advertising gets awards. Is an art form. The average Joe and Jane is being bombarded with signals, messages to buy this, try that and be all you can be.

So when a Maine lake is pictured or you watch a video clip with the morning steam rising off it with the sound of a loon in the distance, it gets your attention.

Especially as the sun comes up and a small motor boat droans, heads out in to the largest part of the waterfront.

The setting hits you deeply. Because it’s real, no paid actors, no special set built. Just Maine pure and simple. No one puts on airs, everyone is down to earth.

Maybe less people helps and makes those that are here in Maine more connected, special. You get to know the folks in a small Maine town working on church bean suppers, volunteering for local canoe races, coaching little league or a minor hockey team.

The distance away from large sprawling urban areas may also help insulate, protect, preserve Vacationland.

The folks that visit Maine are looking the abundance of four season outdoor recreation. Fewer, moit more people. They get enough up close and personal with all the people in traffic, gangs, the increasing crime. They need a week’s reprieve from all that. Need Maine for all it offers, her abundance of natural resources that is everywhere you look.

Here are some images of Maine. Some Maine local community videos. Follow our other Maine blogs. Check out the 2200 posts on Active Rain’s blog platform too. Get to know Maine up close and personal. Come walk the wood lots, sample the rock bound coast line, kayak a lake or river. Climb up a mountain or ski down one. Your heart has been here for a long long time if you are being honest right? Help the rest of your major body part catch up. Help them find their way to Maine.
