  • Speaking, Talking The Maine, Canadian Jargon, Lingo, Using Local Slang.

Funny Ways to Say The Same Thing.
Funny Ways to Say The Same Thing.

No wonder there is misunderstanding, miscommunication, mixed signals when you consider the expressions used in day to day language in Maine, just across the border in to Canada.

This blog post explains what we mean.

Do you call a Coke or Pesi or Mountain Dew drink a soda, a pop, and the container it is in…is that part of the request? “I would like a tin of pop”. When you think Maine, the downeast expressions of “wanna ‘nother LOB-stahhhhh” or “slab of blueberry pie chummy” come to mind. But no wonder there is miscommunication based on not hearing what was said, understanding the local lingo causing confusion.

Add in your own experiences with what was actually said but what you thought was communicated and it is no wonder mixed messages, signals happen. Tim Sample, Marshall Dodge, Bob Marley and others have made a good living exploiting the Maine way of saying things.

Maine, some things are simpler, other areas described in colorful ways.

Like the expression of an old codger who when asked for directions to a Maine place tells you after a long pause for effect, “You can’t get there from here” kind of logic.

Maine, come sample the flavor, meet the people, see the sights in this state so far north we are practically in Canada.

pucker-brush \’puhk-er-‘bruhsh\ n – Also: pecker-brush; 1. Generic compound word denoting indigenous scrub-brush or other non-landscaped foliage; “That dog’s treed a porcupine over there in the pucker-brush.” 2. Word used to describe anywhere you didn’t originally intend to be, usu. a roadside ditch or somewhere off of a sled or wheeler trail; “Buddy got rightoutaver and put his truck in the pucker-brush.” The term is likely derived from the common physiological reaction to finding oneself in the pucker-brush. • Maine Little League Team..Have Been A Baseball “Franchise” Owner Since 1983.

The Wind Up, Delivers A Knuckle Ball Across The Plate.

Little league in a Maine town, with the sun setting, families, friends and lots of talented kid baseball players entertaining out on the ball diamond.

Maine little league is a hoot. My four kids went thru the program. And in Maine, there is nothing like watching a little league game. Especially after a busy real estate game and then throwing on shorts, a t shirt and sneakers..and ball glove to head for community park.

Tonight in Houlton Maine watch the Mooers Realty team in a playoff game win and here are some of the photos, highlights of the event.
Did you play little league as a kid? Just one Maine past times to enjoy the weather, the local talent and to get out on a bleacher to root for the team.

Maine, plenty of local flavor, good home made whole family fun. Is it like this where you live?

Is it like living in Maine where you live now?

Tonight before this playoff game, I helped set up for the Maine soap box derby race Saturday and at the same time McGill’s Community Band was playing in the park behind Cary Library in the amphitheatre the Houlton Rotary Club built for the town of Houlton.

I’m glad to live in Maine. My family benefited too from the small town local flavor and the “village” helping raise those kids.

  • Maine, Most Of Your Life’s Missing Puzzle Pieces Are Here.

Houlton ME Boys Win Gold State Basketball Trophy.
Houlton ME Boys Win Gold State Basketball Trophy.

Pieces to a life puzzle, in Maine the ones you need are plentiful because the folks you meet are anxious to help you find them.

There is an awareness in Maine. A sense of real “community”. That you, me are all strongly connected. Maybe it’s due in part to less people. And the ones in Maine we do have being hard working. Willing to step up over and over to volunteer for tasks needing to be done. Home grown not store bought. On the local town level, thru out the neighborhoods where we live, raise our families, work to make a living.

Survival, not being spoiled by material items or needing lots of money to be happy another reason why puzzle pieces are plentiful here. Money, titles, things, stuff, material collections to impress people is not why you move to Maine. Who the person deep inside is, what I can learn from you, you from me is the two way communication sought out, needed. I have puzzle pieces you need, you have ones I have been searching for.

Experiences with the canvas, the backdrop Maine’s four season beauty too. The life lessons happen quicker when they are not artificial, not man made. Your surroundings in Maine with no traffic, the 4th lowest crime statistic, peace and quiet to think, to enjoy life are the foundation any one needs. When you are on top of Cadillac or Katahdin, those Maine mountains and the expanse for miles and miles literally get you “on top” of things. As you ski down a little or major Maine mountain, canoe a river, you get it. Kids, their sports are the center of most of our volunteer efforts in Maine.

You realize what is important, that you matter and have an important role on a local level. Not just with your family, but that strong connection with your communities, your state and a strong sense of pride is the mortar between all those puzzle pieces. Strongly cemented, glued together. Maine people are like that. Appreciating what we have, not lamenting material items we wished we owned. We have everything we need, but in fleeting moments not everything the television says we have to have, should want. Basics, simple living is Maine with your feet on the ground.

The local beauty of Maine overwhelms, fills you with a sense of wonderment, contentment.

In a four season setting unlike no other with rock bound coast lines, international ties with Canadian relatives just across our borders in Quebec, New Brunswick.

Maine, come collect some puzzle pieces. Share some of your life lessons on how to fill that life with what matters day in, day out. Life is short. But no one said it could not be fun, rich in the things that matter. Maine, wake up, start your dream. Would love to help you with your part time, full time move, relocation and investment in Maine, the way life should be.

  • Maine, Trying To Describe It With Words Comes Up Way Way Short.

Drafting, Not Unique To NASCAR..Maine Mother Ducks Do It.
Drafting, Not Unique To NASCAR..Maine Mother Ducks Do It.
Early Summer Morning Walk To Maine Lake Dam, Drews Lake ME
Early Summer Morning Walk To Maine Lake Dam, Drews Lake ME

If someone landed a space ship from a galaxy far away in Maine, and had only ten minutes during refueling to learn about the place, words would just get in the way of the conversation.

Images, lots of them one by one show the place, tell the story of what living in Maine is like, how the surroundings look here. Early morning Maine walk on a lake today generated lots of “eye candy” ME waterfront photos to begin to make the point of the four season beauty here.

When you live in Maine for a period of time, trips in to a congested city, being on your toes in six lanes of free way busy traffic is less appealing, not something you hunger or look forward to. Maine is less people so less traffic, pollution, crime…the whole nine yards of what over population does to a place.

The images from an early morning walk around Drews Lake hammers home the point that Maine is one gorgeous, jaw dropping pretty state. Being here, getting outdoors and walking it, taking Maine in is an experience. It creates an awareness of how lucky we are, how humble we should be in the surroundings that man had nothing to do with putting together. But being good stewards, helping pass along this setting, the real estate in Maine to our kids in as good, hopefully better shape is crucial.

That’s why come to Maine, buy some only if you respect it. Vacationland is the label on the license plates but the “tread lightly” and “carry in, carry out” your debris, garbage comes with the intructions on this precious natural gem, 4 season resource.

Maine, wake up. Start your dream.

Put on your sneakers, your hiking shoes and start the trek in to Maine. Get here any time you can. Grab your coat and tell your friends where you are heading the next three day weekend, vacation and eventually for good. Relocation, retirement to Maine just makes sense and is sooo low cost property wise. You can not beat the prices of our Maine real estate. I just happen to know of a good Maine REALTOR who can help you in the search. To answer questions you have about Maine, the communities, the weather, anything above and beyond just ME real estate too. (Smile)
